THE JOY OF BEING A GRANDPARENT!

AHHHHH, THE JOY OF GRANDPARENT HOOD!

My husband & I had the wonderful pleasure of watching our grandson for over a week while his Daddy & Mommy (our Son & his wife) took a long needed break & celebrated their 10th year anniversary.  We had never experienced "true grandparent hood" until that week.  You see, he is our 1st grand baby, although we do have a darling little step granddaughter as well.  She is growing too quickly!  At the time our son married, he inherited a beautiful little 2 year old who, after 12 years, has blossomed into the best grandchild anyone could ever wish for.  She is polite, caring, quite, unselfish, beautiful (looks just like her mother), etc., etc.  Anyway, I think you get the picture.  We love her very much.  BUT!!!!!!!!  Then our little grandson came along.  He is the total opposite of our granddaughter.  We only have one child & this is his first baby.  Our little one is turning three in a few days & quickly catching up with his big sister.  Papa & I never knew how much love we could have for a child like we feel for him.  Don't get me wrong, we love our son, but a grandchild is an extension to our son who easily absorbs all our love & attention.  He loves to scream & pitch fits when he doesn't get his way, and he loves to throw things, but hay....what 3 year old doesn't????  We have learned how to "duck" fast when he is around.  I catch myself observing other 2 & 3 year olds now & it seems that they all have the same traits.  As you can tell, we love this child sooooo much & things have changed considerably since he has come into our lives.  He loves helping whenever he can.  On one of the days that we kept care of him, he wanted to help me clean the house.  He was so adorable.  He pushed the broom around the house with so much effort &  loaded the dryer with the cutest little grunts, then he help make the beds with a few jumps on the bed & with the sweetest little laugh, he helped Papa wash the car with such little effort & he even helped Nana bake cookies.

MOM, CAN YOU HEAR ME?

A FAREWELL LETTER TO MOM

I miss our long conversations over the phone.  I miss our talks regarding sports, the stock market, recipes, our grandson, your golf scores, my golf scores, my brother, etc.  You always seemed to get a kick out of me talking about a new recipe I tried or exchanging one with you.  I miss your visits.  I enjoyed you here (in my home) during the holidays.  I miss my visits to your home as well.  Mom, I miss you so very, very much!  Why did you have to leave so soon?  One minute you are there & the next minute you’re gone.  Is that what GOD means by "a twinkle of an eye"?
I will always talk about you to my grandson, your great grandson. I hate that you will never really know him.  You loved your grandson (my son) so very much.  He said he will cherish all the memories of you like the time he stayed with you for the summer & you thought him to golf.  He had the time of his life with you Dad.

JUST ANOTHER DAY AT THE NEWMANS

AHHHH...RETIREMENT!
It's 6:00 am Thursday, June 2, 2011.  I am still in bed...oh darn....I better get up.  Wait, Scott is still asleep. I guess I will wait until he starts moving around...then, I will get up.  Well, it's 7:20.  Scott is still asleep.  At least, I think he is.  I then dozed off.  We really need to get up if we plan to go to the lake.  I'll get up as soon as he starts moving around.  Oh NO!  It's 8:05!!!  Scott, are we going to the lake this morning?  Then we better get up.  He slowly pulled himself out of bed with me shortly behind him.  We both dragged our feet until he went down stairs & moved the boat out of the garage.  I started making the bed.  It seems like a morning ritual for me when I make the bed.  The covers have to be just right & tucked in on both sides.  Heaven forbid a scorpion or spider will craw into my bed!  I then pull the comforter over the bed & I make sure it is perfect...the covers cannot hang on the floor, but must be evenly aligned.  I am still moving slowly.  Brushed my teeth, looked at my reflection for a few minutes & wondered why I’m so tired.  It couldn’t be because I went to bed too late.  Oh well, I’ll figure it out later.  I finely put my swim suit on & a cover-up to hide my fat stomach.  Made the bed, washed my face, put on some eye makeup to cover up my puffy eyes, ran down stairs to put a few things together for lunch & emptied all the ice from the freezer to the cooler.  Dr. Pepper sounds good.  Maybe some water too.  Hummm….this fried chicken left over from last night’s dinner looks yummy.  Maybe some string cheese will go well as a snack.  Oh, I can’t forget the barbeque potato chips.  I threw a few napkins in a bag & grabbed the beach bag, lathered on the 75 block over my face & chest.  I then put it & the 50 block in my bag.  Oh wait….I should take the Coppertone 8.  After all, I do want to tan my legs.  I keep hoping that all those ugly sun spots & freckles will blend……I grabbed my sandals, the beach towels & the food & toted everything outside to load on the boat.  Poor Scott, he was still struggling with the hookup.  His COPD wares him out at times.  I really worry about him.  I asked if I could help, but of course he said “No”.  After about 20 minutes, we finally got the boat hooked up to the SUV.   What a relief.  Now we can get on the road.
It’s 10:00 am. The 1 hour drive to Lake Pleasant is peaceful.  We needed more ice for the cooler as well as gas, so we stopped at the nearest gas station about 16 miles down the road.   We are off!!  Oh, yes…I got an ice cream sandwich & Scott got a long Beef Jerky stick.   Now, we are off.
Well, it’s about 11:00 & we are now at the lake.  Luckily, there is no one launching their boats.  It’s a week day, so all the kids are still waking up or their folks are at work…so they will not be at the lake until the week end…tooooo bad. Ha.   Scott first backs the boat & trailer down the launching ramp.  I then help him.  Yikes!  The water seems cold, but I started getting used to it & now it feels pretty good.  The weather is about 85 degrees right now.

This above photo is off the web.  Someone thought you were supposed to drive your boat into the water! What an idiot!

The above picture is after Scott launched the boat.  The 2nd photo is me driving the car up the ramp.   Hay, I can do this.  Scott is already in the boat cruising around until I get back.  After parking the car & trailer I walked back down to the end of the dock.  Scott then maneuvered the boat close to the dock where I had to leap into the boat as quick as possible.  Hay, there is nothing wrong with my balance...Ha.  We are finely taking a nice cruise around the lake.  Lake Pleasant is not near as beautiful as other lakes we have been to, but it is nice.  The water level is up which makes it even nicer.

Smile Scott, I want to put you on my blog….say Cheese!

We drove around the lake for about 20 minutes when we saw some nuns on the run…hahah
Kayaking around the lake.  Pretty funny, but cute.  They could paddle pretty fast.  I wonder if it was the red team vs. the green team?  Hay, I want to drive for a while, Scott…(not really!)  Just the thought of being in control of the boat (or maybe no control) scares me to death!  He really wants me to learn to drive it so I can pull him while he skis.  I could see him rapped around the boat as I put on the breaks…..ouch!  Wait a minute….are there brakes on a boat???  Oh well,  I’ll worry about that later.

The day finally ended at about 2:30pm.  We had a great time.  We ate the fried chicken & cookies, water, cokes, chips, string cheese....just anything we could take with us.  Trying to get the boat back into the garage was as much fun as getting it out.  I think we need a bigger garage.  All & all the day was a good one & we had a lot of fun just being together.
Wait for me!

I'll pick you up later.

Make sure you lock it down good!

Th..th...that's...all folks....See you next time!
